About

Hi! I’m Amy!

A woman wearing a gray beanie, large sunglasses, a gray scarf, and a blue Columbia jacket taking a selfie in an outdoor park with fallen autumn leaves, leafless trees, and a small dog on a leash in the background.

I’m a neuroqueer birder, science communicator, and recent summa cum laude graduate of Portland State University.

As a lifelong birder, I’ve witnessed how sharing the natural world with others can create connections in surprising and powerful ways—across differences, across backgrounds, and across identities. Birds (and undergrad bird-window collision research) were my first foray into science, but community is what keeps me here.

I started Lane County Queer Birders to create an outdoor space where LGBTQIA+ people feel seen, safe, and genuinely welcome. Too often, access to nature comes with barriers—whether social, cultural, or institutional—and this group exists to gently but firmly push those out of the way. At its heart, LCQB is about shared curiosity, mutual care, and the simple magic of being outside together. I genuinely love learning with and from my community!

You can usually find me talking about birds at local parks or at Cascades Raptor Center, where I love helping others connect with wildlife up close. If you see me around town with binoculars, a camera, or getting a little too excited about a raptor, come say hi!
